PSLE Chinese tuition at Ruixing Active Chinese Centre covers Primary 5 and Primary 6, including Higher Chinese, with dedicated PSLE oral and composition preparation built into the syllabus from June each year. Why P5–P6 Chinese Needs a Different Kind of Preparation
PSLE Chinese steps up noticeably at Primary 5 and 6. This is also the stage where Higher Chinese becomes a separate, dedicated class at our centre (see below), because the gap between the regular and Higher Chinese syllabuses widens significantly from P5 onward — and it's why we start structured oral and composition preparation well ahead of the exam (see below).
Higher Chinese for P5–P6
From Primary 5, Higher Chinese students at Ruixing move into a dedicated class, separate from regular Chinese. This is because the two syllabuses diverge significantly at this stage — wider vocabulary, harder comprehension passages, and compositions that are not just longer but use different question formats from regular Chinese. (The oral exam itself is the same as regular Chinese — there's no separate Higher Chinese oral component.) From P1–P4, Higher Chinese students instead learn alongside regular Chinese classmates with extra supplementary material, which gives families a lower-pressure way to see how their child takes to the extra material before P5. How We Prepare Students for the PSLE Chinese Oral Exam
The PSLE Chinese oral exam has two parts: reading aloud (pronunciation, tone accuracy, pacing, and how a student handles punctuation) and a video-based conversation (organising an answer, giving reasons and examples, and knowing how to continue when a word doesn't come to mind).
Our oral preparation follows a set schedule each year:
- From June: a full review of Primary 4–6 vocabulary — most marks are lost on words a student only half-knows, not on technique
- Alongside this: students review useful phrases by oral topic, which double up for use in compositions
- June holidays and July: focused topic revision, plus timed mock exams run under actual exam conditions

When Should You Start PSLE Preparation?
A 2024 study by Singapore's National Institute of Education, covering around 1,410 Primary 5 students across 24 schools, found that how often a family speaks Chinese at home predicts a child's motivation and results even more strongly than tuition hours alone. That's part of why we built our story library — to give families an easy way to bring more Chinese into daily life at home, alongside structured PSLE preparation in class. Many families start dedicated PSLE preparation from Primary 5, when Higher Chinese also splits into its own class, but the right time depends on your child's current level. A free group trial class is a low-commitment way to see how your child responds before committing.

Does Ruixing prepare students specifically for the PSLE Chinese oral exam?
