Singapore Public Transport Fares Rise 7% from December: A Chinese Reading Lesson

On 29 September 2026 Singapore's Public Transport Council announced this year's fare review: from 26 December 2026, public transport fares rise by 7% overall, less than half of the 14.7% maximum the council could have approved.

This lesson rewrites the council's press release as a six-paragraph Chinese reading passage for HSK 4–5 learners. You will read why fares are being adjusted, how much adult and student fares go up, why monthly pass prices stay the same, and what subsidies the government provides. Key words: 调整 (to adjust), 能源 (energy), 补贴 (subsidy), 承担 (to bear), 优惠 (concession), 减轻 (to ease), 月票 (monthly pass), 维持 (to maintain). Information as of 22 October 2026.

Each key word comes with pinyin, an English gloss, a Chinese explanation and an example sentence, all with audio. Seven quiz questions with explanations check your understanding, and the passage can be played in a female or male voice, which makes it useful listening and reading-comprehension practice for secondary school Chinese students.
