After Secondary School: JC, MI, Poly and ITE Pathways

After secondary school, students in Singapore can apply to junior colleges, Millennia Institute, polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). Junior colleges offer a two-year A-Level or IB programme, Millennia Institute a three-year A-Level course, polytechnics three-year diplomas, and ITE two-year or three-year Higher Nitec courses.

This lesson rewrites MOE's official pages as a six-paragraph Chinese reading passage for HSK 4–5 learners. You will read how O-Level candidates apply through the Joint Admissions Exercise (2027 dates are tentative), how the first Secondary Education Certificate (SEC) candidates apply through the new Post-Secondary Admissions Exercise from 2028, and the new JC and MI entry limits. Key words: 升学 (to go on to further study), 申请 (to apply), 录取 (to admit), 文凭 (diploma), 课程 (course), 成绩 (results), 门槛 (entry requirement), 合并 (to merge). Information as of 5 November 2026.

Each key word comes with pinyin, an English gloss, a Chinese explanation and an example sentence, all with audio. Seven quiz questions with explanations check your understanding, and the passage can be played in a female or male voice, which makes it useful listening and reading-comprehension practice for secondary school Chinese students. Please follow MOE's latest announcements.
