Dengue Prevention in Singapore: A Chinese Reading Lesson

On 16 May 2026 Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA) launched its National Dengue Prevention Campaign. Over 600 dengue cases had been reported as of 15 May, 66% fewer than the same period last year; 2025 had over 4,000 cases, 70% fewer than the 13,651 cases in 2024. NEA's website shows 55 cases in week 43 (25–30 October 2026) and 11 active clusters.

This lesson rewrites the press release and latest data as a six-paragraph Chinese reading passage for HSK 4–5 learners. You will read why people should stay alert during the May–October peak season, the five "B-L-O-C-K" steps to clear stagnant water, the three "S-A-W" actions to avoid bites, and how Project Wolbachia and enforcement fit in. Key words: 病例 (case), 繁殖 (to breed), 积水 (stagnant water), 清除 (to clear away), 叮咬 (to bite), 流行 (to be prevalent), 高峰 (peak), 警惕 (to stay alert). Information as of 31 October 2026.

Each key word comes with pinyin, an English gloss, a Chinese explanation and an example sentence, all with audio. Seven quiz questions with explanations check your understanding, and the passage can be played in a female or male voice, which makes it useful listening and reading-comprehension practice for secondary school Chinese students. Please follow the latest official figures.
